The Orpheus Pages were made over a three week period in 2013. I met him first through Cocteau and later through the poetry of Rilke. Orpheus had inhabited the shadows of the studio for nearly thirty years but this was the moment he emerged as a more tangible presence through the work. I had been steeping myself in the story of Orpheus before entering the studio. Taking an old A4 diary, a stack of colour magazines, scalpel and paint I began mono printing colours onto the pages, then freely composing with colour shapes cut from the magazines. Working on many pages at the same time, they were begun and finished in no particular order. Here are four from the series.
